Daniel Son x Futurewave - Yenaldooshi

Updated: Sep 5, 2019

First of all, I’m going to try to be as objective as possible, but I’ve already listened to this shit a few times and think it’s awesome. So I’m going to try to elaborate without doing the dick rider thing that the other writers tend to do when they like something.

I’ve always thought Daniel Son was pretty cool but was never blown away by him. He’s got a great voice which kind of sounds like he’s yelling all the time, but his lyrics never caught me. He was always saying cool shit, but the lines just came and when through my brain without sticking. But the imagery on this one sticks with me more, than say, the Giallo album.

I think the difference with this joint, is that Futurewave made this surreal, drugged out soundtrack that fits with Daniels style so perfectly, so much that it actually makes me feel high when I listen to it. Therefore, when I don’t pick up on everything Dan says, it makes me want to listen over and over again. Sort of like when you were young and you would take acid and watch Natural Born Killers. Actually Natural Born Killers is a good reference to what this shit sounds like. Psychedelic, with almost Native American vibes. Lost in the desert on shrooms type shit. It also feels like they are trying to convert people into satanism or some shit, like on 333 it sounds like someone is speaking in tongues and then it says “embrace the darkness.” I’m with it.

Another thing that sticks out to me is Daniel’s hooks are dope, which is nice because that is missing in a lot of the new era. Plus this shit has drums which makes it actually bang. That no drum shit is getting played to me. If it’s not done properly, it can sound very bland and boring. Futurewave's beats are a bunch of weird spooky sounding samples that you don’t really know what the instrument is, but it all sounds dope. Over all, the mix and everything sounds really good and professional. Also, the album cover is super dope and fits with the tone of the album.

I’m not going to do a song by song analysis because it’s all good and works really well as a whole. Good for driving around selling cocaine to people. Which is what I think I’ll do with it.

This is the best overall sounding album I’ve heard this year.
